Abstract:
Precise orchestration of chromosome segregation during mitotic cell division is vital to keep genetic stability of eukaryotic cells and mitotic kinases such as cyclin dependent kinase-1, aurora kinases, or spindle assembly checkpoint kinases, play key roles in this process. Because of their vital roles in mitotic progression, mitotic kinases are often exploited as the chemotherapeutic targets of cancer. In the talk, the principle components of the mitotic machinery and their coordination by spindle assembly checkpoint kinases such as monopolar spindle kinase-1 will be discussed in a molecular detail. Additionally, the conceptual application of a high-content image-based analysis on cancer drug screening, an interdisciplinary study to fight the cancer, will be discussed.
