Dr. Chen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at Fudan University. Her research focuses on: (1) older adults’ caregiving relationship at home, in the community, and in the institutional caregiving context; (2) implications of urbanization for long-term care and successful aging in China; and (3) social and health policy development for Chinese older adults. Her work pays special attention to Chinese sociocultural influences and emphasizes a dyadic perspective in the caregiving relationship, bringing both voices of caregiving recipients and caregiving providers.

Dr. Chen has published articles in Qualitative Health Research, Journal of Aging and Health, Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, Journal of Applied Gerontology, Journal of Aging Studies, Journal of Gerontological Social Work, Journal of Aging & Social Policy, Journal of Cross-Cultural Gerontology, and Journal of American Planning Association.

Her monograph “Evolving Eldercare in Contemporary China: Two Generations, One Decision” was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2016. She is working on another book on community-based eldercare in China under contracted with Palgrave Macmillan.

Dr. Chen received her Ph.D. in Social Welfare from UCLA, M.Phil. in Social Work from University of Oxford, and BSW from Fudan University.
