Animal Care and Use Program

Welcome to NYU Shanghai’s Animal Care and Use Program website

NYU Shanghai Research Compliance Office is committed to the ethical and responsible animal care and use on campus.  All activities involving the use of vertebrate animals in research and teaching are conducted in compliance with Chinese and US federal regulations, policy, and guidelines. All research involving animals, regardless of funding source, must be reviewed and approved by NYU Shanghai’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Depending on the study activity, approval by Eastern China Normal University’s Institutional Research Ethics Committee may also be required.

All faculty, students, and research or technical staff who will be directly involved in research with vertebrate animals at NYU Shanghai must complete the required training as designed and approved by the IACUC. Each animal user must be familiar with institution-specific animal care and use policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). The role of each animal user must be identified on an IACUC approved protocol, and each individual further trained by the Principal Investigator on protocol-related operating procedures (e.g. POPs).

This website is designed to help you understand your role as a researcher, as well as to help you access necessary information in order to facilitate your participation in animal studies.

However, as of November 1, 2024, the IACUC is no longer accepting new animal use protocol applications due to realignment of NYU Shanghai’s research program focus.
