International Symposium on Quantum Dynamics of Complex Systems Hosted at NYU Shanghai

On July 2, NYU Shanghai hosted the 2024 International Symposium on Quantum Dynamics of Complex Systems. The symposium focused on understanding electronic and nuclear quantum effects in complex molecular systems, liquids, materials, and biomolecules, attracting over 60 researchers and students.

Twelve speakers from leading institutions, including the University of California, San Diego, the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, New York University, and NYU Shanghai, delivered keynote addresses. Their talks covered topics such as quantum effects in hydration phenomena, open system quantum dynamics, and quantum time correlation functions.

“The symposium offers a cutting-edge platform for international scholars working in this vibrant and rapidly evolving field, fostering collaboration and innovation. It also provides excellent learning experiences for young scholars and graduate students to be exposed to the most advanced developments in the field,” said John Zhang, Director of the NYU-ECNU Center for Computational Chemistry at NYU Shanghai.

“This symposium is a fantastic opportunity to bring together experts from around the globe to discuss the rapidly evolving field of quantum dynamics for complex systems in theoretical and computational chemical physics. Attracting both domestic and international participants, it serves as a valuable platform for exchanging ideas, especially benefiting young scholars in the field,” said NYU Shanghai Assistant Professor of Chemistry Sun Xiang. “I hope we can continue to host this symposium in the future. Many of our guests appreciated our New Bund campus!”

The symposium was co-sponsored by the Editorial Office of the Chinese Journal of Chemical Physics and the NYU-ECNU Center for Computational Chemistry at NYU Shanghai. Sun Xiang and John Zhang of NYU Shanghai and Zhu Tong from East China Normal University, organized the symposium.
