In March, 2016, faculty members of the NYU-ECNU Center for Computational Chemistry at NYU Shanghai were awarded various grants to support their innovative research projects.
The groups of Profs. John Zhang (NYU/NYUSH), William Glover (NYUSH), and Yingkai Zhang (NYU) have been awarded an NYU Global Seed Grant for Collaborative Research to “Develop Hybrid Polarizable Quantum Mechanical Models to Simulate Photochemical Processes”. Their research aims to develop new simulation techniques that combine quantum mechanics and classical mechanics to understand how molecules respond to the absorption of light in a range of complex systems. These developments will allow for the first time a realistic description of the charge separation events that are fundamental in a wide range of systems of biological and technological interest, including photosynthesis, DNA damage, and organic photovoltaics. The award provides $150,000 over two years to support collaborative research efforts in their groups.
Dr. Jianing Song, postdoctoral fellow at NYU-ECNU Center for Computational Chemistry at NYU Shanghai, was awarded the Research Fund from “Shanghai Sailing Program”. This project is initiated by the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (STCSM) to support outstanding young talents in their independent and innovative scientific research.
