The New Development Bank (NDB), established by the BRICS Summit in 2014, is a rising star among multilateral development institutions. Focusing on sustainability and strong partnerships, NDB plans to expand lending by 60% in 2018, largely for sustainable infrastructure development and loans to the private sector.

NDB’s Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Leslie Maasdorp, in dialogue with Professor Heini Shi, will discuss his innovative and fast growing organization, and opportunities for young talent from emerging economies.

A widely respected leader with extraordinary accomplishments, Mr. Maasdorp, brought to NDB 25 years of senior leadership experience in the private sector and in the Government of South Africa. Among many of his achievements, Mr. Maasdorp was a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum and the first African to be appointed as International Advisor to Goldman Sachs International. He was Managing Director and President of Bank of America Merrill Lynch for Southern Africa.  

For the Government of South Africa, he served as Special Advisor to the Minister of Labor and led the restructuring and privatization of state owned enterprises. He was former Chairman and CEO of AdvTech, a leading provider of private education in South Africa.

Vice Chancellor Jeff Lehman will introduce Mr. Leslie Maasdorp, and Professor Heini Shi will lead the dialogue and Q&A session.
