About:

The National Science & Technology Major Projects on “Brain-inspired Computing High-Performance Chips and Core Software" 2026 Annual Project is now open for application. Please refer to the official announcement for more details.

 

Eligibility:

  1. Project (or task) leaders must hold a senior professional title or a doctoral degree and be no older than 60 in principle (born on or after January 1, 1965). They must devote no less than six months per year to the project and must be the primary proposer of the project’s research plan and the actual scientific lead.
  2. For Young Scientists Projects, project (or task) leaders must be under 40 (born on or after January 1, 1985); female researchers may be up to 42 (born on or after January 1, 1983). In principle, age requirements for other team members should follow the same standard.
  3. Once an application is accepted, the host institution and project leader may not be changed in principle.
  4. Each project (or task) leader may lead only one application. Principal investigators of ongoing projects under the National Key R&D Program or National Science and Technology Major Projects may not lead or participate in new applications; sub-award project PIs may participate.
  5. The total number of projects (or tasks) submitted and ongoing—counting both as project leaders or key personnel—together with ongoing projects under the National Key R&D Program and National Science and Technology Major Projects, must not exceed two. Projects under the “Intergovernmental International S&T Innovation Cooperation” Key Program and the “Strategic S&T Innovation Cooperation” Key Program with central fiscal funding ≤ RMB 4 million are exempt from this limit.
  6. Principal investigators and key personnel of ongoing projects under the National Key R&D Program or National Science and Technology Major Projects may not withdraw from those projects to apply for new ones. After withdrawing from a project team, individuals may not lead or participate in new National Key R&D Program projects during the original project’s implementation period.
  7. Ongoing projects (including tasks) whose implementation period, including any extensions, ends before December 31, 2025, are exempt from the above restrictions.
