About:

The 2026 STCSM Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Research Collaboration Program aims to further implement the innovation-driven development strategy, accelerate the development of an open innovation ecosystem with global competitiveness, and support Shanghai’s development as an international science and technology innovation center.

 

Topic 1. Scientific and Technological Innovation by Hong Kong Universities in Shanghai

This topic needs to be applied by a representative office in Shanghai established by a Hong Kong higher education institution. Shanghai local universities and institutions can collaborate with them.  Please check the official announcement for details.

 

Topic 2. Scientific and Technological Collaboration between Shanghai-Hong Kong, and Shanghai-Macao

Objective: To collaborative research between Shanghai and Hong Kong, as well as between Shanghai and Macao, around Shanghai’s priority and future industries, with the aim of addressing key scientific, technological, and industrial challenges of mutual interest. Note that the collaborators should be from the state key laboratories in HK and Macao. 

The expected outcomes of the collaboration must include scientific and technological outputs such as publications, patents, technical standards, prototypes, sample products, or formulations. In addition, the project must deliver a solution or implementation pathway addressing the proposed problem or research direction.

Research Area: unlimited

Project Term: 8/1/2026-7/31/2029

Funding Amount: No more than RMB 500,000 per project, to support up to 10 projects in total

 

Topic 3. Scientific and Technological Collaboration between Shanghai-Taiwan

Objective: To promote science and technology cooperation and exchange between Shanghai and Taiwan, and to support joint research among universities, research institutions, and enterprises in Shanghai and Taiwan, thereby facilitating the sharing of scientific and technological innovation resources and achievements.

Research Area: unlimited

Project Term: 8/1/2026-7/31/2029

Funding Amount: No more than RMB 200,000 per project, to support up to 5 projects in total

 

Eligibility:

  • If applicants are proposing new projects based on a previous project funded by municipal financial resources or other organizations (e.g., the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc.), the similarities and differences between the previous and the current projects, as well as their inheritance and development relationship should be clearly elaborated.
  • Applicants who are leading TWO or more STCSM projects are not eligible for this program
