About:

Under the agreement between NSFC and e-ASIA, the two sides will jointly fund researchers from China and ASEAN to support about 9 collaboration projects based on scientific research. Please refer to the official announcement for more details.

 

Funding Areas:

  1. Agriculture (Application Code 1: under C)
    • Post-Harvest and Agro-Industrial Innovation
    • Smart and Climate-Resilient Farming
  2. Alternative Energy (Application Code 1: under B or G)
    • Sustainable and Renewable Fuels: Net-Zero Emission Policy
    • Sustainable and Renewable Fuels: Sustainable Aviation & Marine Fuels
  3. Health Research (Application Code 1: under C, F, or H)
    • Infectious Disease and Immunology
    • Advanced Medical Research & Enabling Technologies

 

Funding Amount and Period:

  • The funding intensity for the Chinese side does not exceed 2,000,000 RMB per project, which includes research expenses and international cooperation and exchange expenses. Foreign collaborators shall be funded by their respective national funding organizations.
  • Funding period is 3 years, from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2029.

 

Eligibility:

  • The Chinese applicant must hold a senior professional technical position and must be currently leading or have previously led, as the Principal Investigator (PI), a National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) project with a duration of three years or above.
  • Foreign collaborators must meet the eligibility criteria set by their respective funding agencies for applicants in their own countries. For specific details, please refer to the English version of the call for proposals in the relevant research fields (https://www.the-easia.org/jrp).
  • For the Chinese side, the number of domestic collaborating research institutions must not exceed two.
  • An applicant is permitted to apply for only one International (Regional) Joint Research Project within the same calendar year.
  • The total number of ongoing International (Regional) Joint Research Projects led by an applicant as the PI is limited to one. Projects that are scheduled to conclude within the year of application are excluded from this count.
  • This project does NOT count as one of the two projects per NSFC’s restriction on the allowed number of applications/projects by one PI.
