About:
The 2026 MOE Humanities and Social Sciences General Grant is now open for application. For the application, no specific list of research topics will be provided. Instead, a set of Priority Research Areas is identified. Applicants are encouraged to conduct in-depth research on these areas through interdisciplinary and integrative approaches.
Funding Areas:
This grant covers 29 disciplines including: Marxist Theory; Chinese Communist Party History and Party Building; Discipline Inspection and Supervision Studies; Public Security Studies; Philosophy; Theoretical Economics; Applied Economics; Law; Political Science; Sociology; Ethnology; Education; Psychology; Sport Science; Chinese Language and Literature; Foreign Languages and Literatures; Journalism and Communication; Archaeology; Chinese History; World History; Arts Studies; Management Science and Engineering; Business Administration; Agricultural and Forestry Economic Management; Public Administration; Information Resource Management; National Security Studies; Design Studies; and Area and Country Studies.
Priority Research Areas:
- Systematic and Theoretical Research on the Party’s Innovative Theories
- Research on the Theory and Practice of Chinese Modernization
- Research on the Preservation, Inheritance, and Innovation of Fine Traditional Chinese Culture
- Research on the Public Outreach and International Communication of Philosophy and Social Sciences
- Research on Frontier Issues in Emerging Interdisciplinary Fields
- Research on Fundamental Theories and Core Issues Across Disciplines
Program Type and Funding Scale:
- Planning Program: 3 years, up to RMB 100,000 per project
- Young Researcher Program: 3 years, up to RMB 80,000 per project
Eligibility Requirements:
- This program is open to applicants of all nationalities. Foreign applicants should provide a proof of employment issued by the HR Department.
- Each applicant can only submit one proposal as a PI.
- Planning Program: the applicant should hold a senior professional title or a doctoral degree.
- Young Researcher Program: applicants should be born after Jan 1st, 1985
- Applicants falling into one of the following categories can NOT apply this year:
- Is leading any ongoing MOE Humanities and Social Sciences grant project as a PI;
- Is a PI of any MOE Humanities and Social Sciences grant projects that have been terminated within recent three years, or have been revoked within recent five years;
- Is leading any ongoing programs sponsored by National Natural Science Grants or National Social Science Grants;
- Is applying for 2026 National Social Science Grants
- Applicants who applied for this program for two consecutive years (2024 & 2025) but did not get funded

Application:
Starting this year, applications will be quota-limited. An internal review will be organized if the number of applications exceeds the allocated quota.
