About:
There are three schemes under the Shanghai Rising-Star Program. Only Scheme A and Scheme Nurturing Program (Sailing Program) are open to scholars from universities and research institutions. Each applicant can only apply for one scheme.

Please note that the Rising Star program is quota-based. There would be an internal nomination if the number of notifications we receive from potential applicants is larger than the number that the quota assigned.

Scheme A:

Project Term: September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2027.
Funding Scale: RMB 400,000 per project
Eligibility:

• Male applicants must be under 35 years old (born on or after January 1, 1989); Female applicants must be under 37 years old (born on or after January 1, 1987);
• Applicants must hold Ph.D. degrees;
• For new projects proposed by applicants based on previous projects funded by municipal financial funds or other funds (such as MOST, NSFC, etc.), the similarities and differences, inheritance and development relationship between the two should be clearly explained;
• Applicants who are leading two or more ongoing STCSM projects CANNOT apply.  

Scheme Nurturing Program (Sailing Program):

Project Term: September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2027.
Funding Scale: RMB 200,000 per project
Eligibility:

• Male applicants must be under 32 years old (born on or after January 1, 1992); Female applicants must be under 34 years old (born on or after January 1, 1990);
• PIs must hold Master’s degrees or above;
• PIs whose research projects have been funded by the provincial, ministry, or national level funding CANNOT apply.

Application:

• Applicant need to complete the application through the online system.
• The online application for the project starts at 9:00 (GMT+8) on August 19, 2024.
• For the Scheme A, there would be two rounds of review: peer review and on-site review; For the Scheme Nurturing Program (Sailing Program), there would be one round of peer review.
