International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP)

About:

Under the agreement between NSFC and ICTP, this program sponsors selected scholars to participate in the ICTP academic activities in Italy (see attachment), including the symposium and workshops held by ICTP.

Funding Scope:

Funding areas include math, high energy physics, Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics, Quantitative Life Science, and Geophysics.

Funding Amount & Period:

NSFC will provide travel costs to Italy, up to RMB 20,000/project for the awardees, and ICTP will cover the local costs including accommodation, meals, transportation, etc.

Project period will be from August 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Applicant from the Chinese side must be a PI in an ongoing NSFC project with a duration of at least three years.
• If the applicant from the Chinese side is a major participant in an ongoing NSFC project with a duration of at least three years, he can apply if s/he has a doctoral degree.
• This program does NOT count towards the “two-project” limit.
• This program falls into the category of International (Regional) Collaboration and Exchange Program but is NOT subject to the restriction that one applicant can only apply for one program in the same category in the same year.
• This program and other NSFC-ICTP programs are mutually exclusive.
