Chemistry Faculty Xiang Sun Wins Prestigious Research Grant

NYU Shanghai Assistant Professor of Chemistry Xiang Sun was just announced as the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Young Scientists Fund (Category B) by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) for his project, Quantum Dynamics in Condensed Phase. The award includes a grant of RMB 2,000,000 (approximately USD $277,995) to support his research over a three-year period, from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2028.

Sun’s project builds on his extensive research into quantum dynamics of condensed-phase systems, including liquid solutions, surfaces, biological macromolecules, and energy-conversion nanomaterials. A key objective of Professor Sun’s research is to achieve a molecular-level understanding of how electronic and vibrational excitations affect the mechanisms, outcomes, and spectroscopic signatures of dynamic processes in complex molecular systems.

In collaboration with partner institutions NYU and East China Normal University, Professor Sun’s work advances the field of many-body quantum dynamics. His research contributes to a deeper understanding of charge and energy transfer in light-harvesting biomolecules and organic photovoltaic materials, with broad implications for the development of next-generation energy technologies.
