About:
Under the agreement between NSFC and NRF, the two sides will jointly fund researchers from China and Korea to support about 30 projects (20 collaboration and exchange projects and 10 conferences) on the basis of scientific research. Please refer to the official announcement for more details.

 

Funding Scope:
Funding areas include Mathematical, Physics, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Materials Sciences, Information Sciences, Management Sciences, and Medical Sciences. This grant aims to fund the following types:

  1. Collaboration and Exchange Projects: NSFC will cover the international travel expenses of Chinese researchers visiting Korea and the accommodation, meal and inter-city transportation expenses of Korean researchers visiting China, etc. NRF will cover the international travel expenses of Korean researchers visiting China and the accommodation, meal and inter-city transportation expenses of Chinese researchers visiting Korea.
  2. Hosting Academic Conferences in China: NSFC will cover relevant costs generated in China (conference costs, room and board costs generated by all participants), and NRF will cover the travel expenses of Korean researchers who visit China.
  3. Attending Academic Conferences abroad: NSFC will cover the travel expenses generated by Chinese researchers, and NRF will cover all other costs generated in Korea (conference costs, room and board costs generated by all participants).

 

Funding Amount & Period:
NSFC will provide up to 150,000 RMB for each project.

  1. Collaboration and Exchange Projects: two years, from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027;
  2. Conferences: one week long. On the application form, applicants should fill out January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026 for the research period.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Each applicant from the Chinese side must be a PI or a major participant in an ongoing NSFC project that will close on or after December 31, 2026, with a duration of at least three years.
  • Please note that applicant who is a major participant in an ongoing NSFC project should either has a senior professional title, a PhD degree or is recommended by two experts who have senior professional titles in the same area and get consent from the PI, if they want to apply for this program as PI.
  • Applicants from Korea should meet NRF’s requirements and submit a grant proposal to NRF.
  • This program does NOT count as one of the two projects per NSFC's restriction on the allowed number of applications/projects by one PI.
  • This program falls into the category of International (Regional) Collaboration and Exchange Program but is NOT subject to the restriction that one applicant can only apply for one program in the same category in the same year.
  • This program and other NSFC-NRF programs are mutually exclusive.
