Abstract

Writing is hard. Publishing in top journals is fiercely competitive. In this talk, I will showcase how to exploit generative AI, particularly large language models like ChatGPT, to improve our research and its communication, including academic writing, visualization, and software programming. Drawing from my experiences as an author, collaborator, and editor for leading psychology journals such as Psychological Science and Behavior Research Methods, I offer practical insights into—and philosophical and sociological reflections on—the publishing game. Whether you are a student, a budding scientist, or a seasoned academic, you will come away from this talk with actionable information and stimulating thoughts on writing,  publishing, and AI.

Biography

Zhicheng Lin received his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota and his B.S. in Psychology from Peking University. He is a Hundred Talents Program Investigator at the University of Science and Technology of China. Recently, he has focused on fostering a symbiosis of AI with psychology (and more broadly, social/behavioral science), which could be termed AI psychology. His empirical work has been published in leading psychology journals, including Psychological Science, Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, Psychological Bulletin, American Psychologist, Perspectives on Psychological Science, and Advances in Methods and Practices in Psychological Science. He has also contributed opinion and conceptual pieces to prominent journals like Trends in Cognitive Sciences, Nature Human Behaviour, and Nature Biomedical Engineering.
