Abstract:
The central theme of this series is the mathematical properties and applications of cluster expansions for a number of systems in classical and quantum statistical mechanics. These talks include three parts. The first one gives the general setup of cluster expansion and some fundamental mathematical properties. The second part presents some applications of cluster expansion to classical and quantum mechanism lattice systems. Finally, we will apply the cluster expansion to study the virial expansion in continuum systems. Virial expansion is one of the most important tools for the empirical description of gases and liquids and it provides the canonical mathematical framework for the development of theories of real fluids.
Biography:
Nguyen obtained his Bachelor's degree at Quy Nhon University, Vietnam in 2013. Then he obtained his Ph.D. degree in mathematical physics at Gran Sasso Science Institute, Italy in July 2020 under the supervision of Professor Roberto Fernández. Now he is holding a postdoctoral position in New York University Shanghai. Nguyen's research is mainly about the cluster and virial expansion theory and their applications in statistical mechanics and probability.
