Abstract:
In this talk, I will introduce our recent progress on the strain tuning of electronic properties of 2D materials by first-principles calculations, focusing on graphene, 2D h-BN and MoS2, and ultra-thin topological insulator films. Effects of uniaxial strain distribution, substrate-induced lattice mismatch, and lattice relaxation in ultra-thin films will be discussed.
Biography:
Prof. Zhong obtained his B.Sc. in physics from Xiangtan University in 1985, M. Sc. in theoretical physics from Hunan University in 1989 and Ph. D. in solid state physics from University of Cergy- Pontoise, France, in 1995. He became a faculty member in the Department of Physics at Xiangtan University in 1985, and was promoted to full professor in 1992 and further to Changjiang Professor of Ministry of Education in 2006. He worked as a Visiting Professor in French National Center for Scientific Research (1993-1995) and in Chemnitz University of Technology and Max-Planck Institute in Germany (1997-1998). He was a Research Scientist (1997-2007) and a Distinguished Visiting Scientist (2008-2015) in Oak Ridge National Laboratory in USA. Prof. Jianxin Zhong has been serving as Dean of School of Physics and Optoelectronics since 2008. He is also the Founding Director of Hunan Key Laboratory for Micro-Nano Energy Materials and Devices and the Director of Hunan Laboratory for Quantum Engineering and Micro-nano Energy Technology.
Prof. Zhong’s main research focuses include low-dimensional quantum systems, quantum transport, quantum dynamics and disorder, disordered systems, 2D materials, and computational design of materials. He is an author of over 300 scholarly articles. His publications are widely cited with an h-index of 52 and more than 9000 citations from Google Scholar. He serves as the Co- Editor of EPL (Europhysics Letters).
