NYU Shanghai hosted the 2024 Shanghai Probability Meeting on November 2-3, welcoming over 50 participants for in-depth discussions on cutting-edge topics in modern probability theory. The event brought together leading experts and emerging researchers to explore advancements in some of the most active areas of probability theory and its intersections with related fields. A key objective of the meeting was to foster collaboration between Shanghai-based and international researchers, providing a platform to present recent developments and forge new academic connections.
The symposium featured 10 distinguished speakers from renowned institutions, including Université Paris-Dauphine PSL, GSSI, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the City University of New York, East China Normal University, Meiji University, and NYU Shanghai. Their keynote presentations spanned a broad range of topics, such as stochastic dynamics, percolation, Ising models, stochastic partial differential equations, random walks, interacting particle systems, and mathematical statistical mechanics. These speakers are currently engaged in pioneering work across these specialized areas, making significant contributions to the theoretical and applied aspects of probability.

Sponsored by the NYU-ECNU Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU Shanghai, the event was organized by Associate Professor of Mathematics Vahagn Nersesyan and Professor of Mathematics Alejandro Ramírez. “The Shanghai Probability Meeting is set to become an annual event, with the venue rotating among different universities in Shanghai each year,” said the organizing committee. “This rotation highlights the collaborative spirit within Shanghai’s Probability community, strengthening ties across local institutions. Additionally, by inviting leading international experts, the conference not only promotes knowledge exchange within Shanghai but also fosters valuable collaborations on a global scale.”
