Researchers Studied Pandemic Era Human Movement Patterns

In a recent study published in the sociology journal Socius, Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Business Analytics Bruno Abrahao and his collaborators at NYU Abu Dhabi delve into the shifts in human movement patterns during various stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the impact of vaccine availability.

Using data from smartphones across 25 major U.S. cities over a span of four years, they observed the evolution of travel behaviors in 2021 and 2022. The pandemic, which began in 2020, altered the way people navigated urban spaces and such changes have had profound societal consequences, influencing social dynamics, affecting the environment, and underscoring urban disparities.
