Dr. Ding is a Professor of the Population Research Institute at East China Normal University.

Dr. Ding received his Ph.D. in Human Geography at the Population Research Institute of East China Normal University in 1989 and was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Sociology, Aberdeen University, UK from 1995 to 1996. Before he became Dean of the SSD in 2009, Dr. Ding was a Professor and Associate Director at the Department of Geography, ECNU from 1999 to 2002 and was a Professor and Chair for the Population Research Institute at ECNU from 2002 to 2009. Dr. Ding’s recent publications focus on how internal migration and population density may shape urban development in China. His research also pays attention to how the household registration system might be restructured to accommodate the recent massive flow of internal migration.
