Chenxi Huang is the Director of the Department of Social Work at East China Normal University. He is also a Professor of Population Studies and Social Welfare and Deputy Director of the Population Research Institute (PRI) of East China Normal University. He is a research fellow of the Center for Chinese Modern City Studies (key Humanities and Social Science Research Bases approved by the Ministry of Education) and currently a Council Member of the Shanghai Population Association and a Council Member of the Shanghai Women’s Study Association.

He was honored with a New Century Excellent Talents in University award by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2013. Dr. Huang has engaged in research of population and social welfare policy issues in China and published influential work on social assistance and social policy. His recent research interests focus on migratory intention and behavior, social policies for the “floating population,” family support for the elderly, and social welfare development in China. Dr. Huang received his PhD in social policy in 2003 from the Department of Social Work and Social Administration at the University of Hong Kong
