Drs. Peggy Morton and Siuping Ma, faculty members from the NYU Silver School of Social Work, invited by Professor Wen-Jui Han, director of the Institute, delivered the lectures for this training workshop. Social Work supervision theories, practices, and challenges were introduced during this workshop, along with many practical field examples and role-play to allow the trainees to have the hands-on experience in providing proper supervising for social work students and junior social workers.
The trainees, most of whom from social service organizations in Shanghai possess years of rich experiences in practicing social services in the field. They have expressed their appreciations for the importance of such training workshop in raising the quality of social service delivery in Shanghai as well as nurturing the next generations of social workers through proper supervision. The collaboration between the Institute and Shanghai Social Worker Association marks the very first and important step in incorporating Western theories, practices, and experiences into China’s native knowledge and skills in shaping the future social work profession for years to come.
