Abstract:
Algebraic geometers love to classify the objects that they study (mostly sets defined by polynomial equations in several variables). I will explain what "classify" means and how they do it.
Biography:
Olivier Debarre is a professor of mathematics at Université Paris-Diderot, France. His research interests are in complex algebraic geometry and he is currently visiting the Shanghai Center for Mathematical Sciences for a few weeks.
