NYU Shanghai Math Club Kicks off in Early October

NYU Shanghai launched the new math club with a kick-off event on Monday, October 13 at the Pudong academic building. Over 40 undergraduate students as well as nearly all math faculty and GAFs attended the event, including Provost Joanna Waley-Cohen and Professor Fanghua Lin.

Professor William Faris shared a talk on “How Quantum Mechanics Ruined My Life”, describing the mystery of mathematics and physics. Following the talk, five students were elected to form the Math Club executive board, led by President Zikai Liu. These enthusiastic students will continue to organize events for the NYU Shanghai mathematics community.

The Office of Research Institutes, the Office of Academic Affairs and the NYU-ECNU Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU Shanghai are all sponsors of the Math Club, which aims to contribute to build a better research environment of NYU Shanghai.
