Math Institute Welcomes 3 New Affiliated Faculty

The NYU-ECNU Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU Shanghai  is pleased to welcome our 3 new affiliated faculty.

Fangjun Xu, Researcher of School of Statistics, East China Normal University
Fangjun Xu is a Researcher of School of Statistics at East China Normal University. He received B.S. and M.S. from Nankai University, and Ph.D. from University of Connecticut.  His research interests are probability theory and financial mathematics.

Qiang Yao, Associate Professor at the School of  Statistics, East China Normal University
Qiang Yao is currently an associate professor at the School of Statistics, East China Normal University. He got his Ph.D.’s degree at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Peking University in 2009, under the supervision of Professor Dayue Chen. His research interests include interacting particle systems, random walks, percolation, stochastic programming, etc.

Weian Zheng, State Endowed Professor, Dean of College of Economics and Management, East China Normal University; Professor Emeriti, University of California, Irvine
Weian Zheng, is State Endowed Professor at ECNU and Professor Emeriti at University of California, Irvine, USA. He had Docteur d'état ès Sciences Mathématiques degree from University of Strasbourg, France. He has a few known results in probability theory, including (with P.A.Meyer) the tightness criterion for laws of semi-martingales and (with T.J.Lyons) the decomposition of symmetric Markovian processes. With Y.Shen, He used probability theory to reduce the famous Monge-Kantorovich mass transfer problem to a boundary problem of partial differential equation and solved this problem in the plane.
