Seminar - Zhen Lei: Global Wellposedness of 2D Incompressible Elastodynatics

Global Wellposedness of 2D Incompressible Elastodynatics
Date & Time:
Tuesday, November 3, 2015 - 10:00 to 11:00
Zhen Lei, Fudan University
Room 371, Geography Building, 3663 Zhongshan Road North, Shanghai

The seminar is sponsored by NYU-ECNU Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU Shanghai.

With certain null conditions on nonlinearities, wave equations are wellposed globally in time for small initial data. Those significant and breakthrough results are obtained by several leading experts including Christodoulou, Klainerman and Alinhac before 2001. Around 2000, Agemi, Sideris were able to extend the above theory to 3D nonlinear elasticity which is a wave system with different speeds (then Sideris-Thomases also solved the 3D incompressible case). We will report our result on the 2D incompressible elasticity.

Zhen Lei is Professor of Mathematics at Fudan University. From February 2012 to January 2013, he was a Visiting Professor at California Institute of Technology and Harvard University. In 2014, he became a member of the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) and Fellow of Shanghai Center for Mathematical Sciences. He has been awarded National Support Program for Young Top-Notch Talents, Shanghai Natural Science Peony Prize in 2014, Natural Science Funds for Excellent Young Scholars of China in 2012 and others.
