Seminar - Yuning Liu: Monotonicity Formula for Elliptic Equation IV

Monotonicity Formula for Elliptic Equation IV
Date & Time:
Thursday, October 29, 2015 - 14:45 to 16:00
Yuning Liu, NYU Shanghai
Room 371, Geography Building, 3663 Zhongshan Road North, Shanghai

The seminar is sponsored by NYU-ECNU Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU Shanghai.

In this talk, we shall first derive a parabolic version of the monotonicity formula in the same manner as what we did for harmonic function. As applications, we shall prove the boundary null-controllability of the heat equation and the strong unique continuation property for parabolic equation when the coefficients of the lower order terms is time-dependent.

Yuning Liu is Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics at NYU Shanghai. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, he was Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Universität Regensburg, Germany. He holds a Ph.D. from Institut Élie Cartan Nancy, France.

Dr. Liu’s research interests are mathematics of fluid mechanics and control theory. His work has appeared in the SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis and ESAIM: Control, Optimization and Calculus of Variations
