Seminar - Random Walks in Dirichlet Environment

Topic:
Random Walks in Dirichlet Environment
Date & Time:
Tuesday, May 10, 2016 - 11:00 to 13:00
Speaker:
Laurent Tournier, University Paris Nord 13
Location:
Room 264, Geography Building, Zhongbei Campus, ECNU

The seminar is sponsored by NYU-ECNU Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU Shanghai.

Abstract:

We consider random walks in i.i.d. random environment on Zd. Among the distributions of the environment, the case of Dirichlet laws stands out due to its interpretation as a linearly reinforced walk and due to several remarkable identities that lead to sharp results. During this talk, I will present the model and review the main tools and properties known so far, with a focus on results regarding transience.

Biography:

Laurent Tournier graduated at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris before receiving his PhD in mathematics at the University of Lyon, France, in 2010. After a postdoc position in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he moved in 2011 to the University Paris Nord 13 as an assistant professor. His main research interests focus on random walks in random environment, reinforced random walks, particle systems and statistical mechanics.
