Talk Abstract: Recently, chatbot has become a hot topic in the artificial intelligence community. Many companies have invested in deploying their chatbots for commercial use including Apple Siri, Microsoft Cortana, Amazon Alexa etc. In this talk, the speaker will introduce techniques for natural language understanding  that extracts semantic information from natural language queries in task-oriented chatbots.  Then he will talk about Xianer, a chit-chat based chatbot built at Wechat AI. He will conclude with challenges and future work.
 

Speaker's Bio: Yik-Cheung (Wilson) Tam is a principal NLP scientist at Wechat AI focusing on research and development of chatbots. From 2015 to 2017, Wilson was a senior NLP scientist at Microsoft (Suzhou) working on natural language understanding for Cortana, a Microsoft's virtual personal assistant. He has 6-year research experiences in USA, including SRI international Inc (formerly Stanford Research Institute), and Nuance communications Inc.  In 2009, Wilson obtained a PhD degree in language technologies at Carnegie Mellon University. His research interest includes natural language processing, machine translation, automatic speech recognition and machine learning.
