Xiaoming Zhou is currently a Professor of Neurobiology in the Key Laboratory of Brain Functional Genomics of the Ministry of Education and the School of Life Sciences at East China Normal University. Professor Zhou earned his Ph.D. in Physiology at the East China Normal University (ECNU) in 1998, and finished his postdoctoral training at the University of Missouri Columbia, USA in 2005. He left Missouri to join the faculty at ECNU as a full professor of neurobiology in 2005.
The primary objective of Professor Zhou’s research is to understand how experience (training) rewires the brain. Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, he is currently employing behavioral, electrophysiological, and molecular techniques to investigate the experience-based plasticity in the auditory cortex of model animals. He is also developing novel training strategies for remediating deficits in cortical information processing. These studies can aid in the development of new treatment strategies for hearing impairment and other neurological disorders, including dyslexia and autism.
