Abstract:
The claustrum is a subcortical telencephalic nucleus with the highest connectivity per volume of any brain structure. This talk musters rodent and human data to support a novel conceptual framework describing a role for the claustrum in coordinating cortical networks required for cognitive control.
Biography:
Brian N. Mathur, Ph.D. received his B.A (Neuroscience) from Oberlin College, earned a Ph.D. (Neuroscience) from Vanderbilt University and was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health. He joined the faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) in 2013 and is now Associate Professor in the Departments of Pharmacology and Psychiatry and serves as Director of Graduate Education for the UMSOM Ph.D. Program in Neuroscience. The primary focus of his lab is to understand how neural macro- and microcircuits plastically govern cognitive control of action in health and alcohol misuse contexts.
