As digitalization expands across the global economy and continues to redefine the internet ecosystem, longstanding barriers between industries, regions and other spheres are increasingly being broken. This process has created a new space for innovation, a “digital ecological community”, bringing together the internet and the real economy. While the potential for this community to open new opportunities for development has been widely recognized, many implications have yet to be adequately explored, including its role in the move towards a “Digital China”.
