Research Grants Team

The Principal Investigator is the primary person responsible for all aspects of the research program, including preparing grant materials. However, most awards are issued to the institution, not the individual. Therefore, submitting proposals to external sponsors, public or private, is generally an institutional rather than an individual function. Institutional authorizations must be formally secured prior to the submission of such grant proposals. If institutional review is not conducted for any proposals prior to the submission, the Research Grants Office reserves the right to withdraw any proposal that the Office deems in conflict with university or faculty interest, or any policies or procedures.

NYU Shanghai Investigators should notify the Research Grants Office (at shanghai.researchgrants@nyu.edu) as early as possible when you consider applying for a grant, either as a PI or as a co-PI. For grant applications where NYU Shanghai Investigators are involved as a member or a collaborator, you still should notify us in advance as long as the application requires institutional clearance or commitment.  If you are unsure about any procedures, please contact us at shanghai.researchgrants@nyu.edu.

Once receiving your intent, the Research Grants Office team will work with you on the preparation of grant applications, coordinate the institutional routing of the proposals, obtain appropriate internal approval, and ensure the successful submission to the sponsor. Three weeks or longer are often required to complete the internal proposal routing, negotiations with sponsors, review, and other applicable institutional procedures. The Research Grants Office normally will not review any applications with a due day less than full five business days away.
